Father with son - Doug Holt Online

Do you ever feel overwhelmed? I certainly do.

When I’m overwhelmed, I’m not the best version of me. I’m usually moody, easily upset, and I often find myself getting tired. Sometimes I just say fuck it, let’s go grab a drink and call it a day.

This isn’t the best version of me.

The feeling of overwhelming comes from reaching too far. It comes from trying to do more than I actually think I can do and ultimately leads to dissatisfaction.

I’m driven to achieve – to accomplish my goals.

But what if instead, we became driven to be satisfied?

What would that world look like?

When I’m satisfied, I tend to actually get more done. People want to be around me and I enjoy the journey far greater than when unsatisfied.

And what if the only reason we’re actually overwhelmed, and unsatisfied, is because we’re really trying to prove something to someone else. What if deep down the root cause is a feeling of not being good enough and therefore it drives us to try to achieve more.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting more. We can be both in a state of satisfaction and a state of achieving. It’s the state of overwhelm that sabotages what we truly desire.

3 things you can do today:
1. If you’re unsatisfied in any area of your life, then what do you get to change so you’re satisfied? Change that thought or action now.

2. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, then what are 5 things you can be grateful for right now? Write those down.

3. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, then ask yourself what are you trying to prove and who are you trying to prove it to? You can change your mind – even if it’s to yourself. Just because you said you were going to do something in the past, doesn’t mean you have to do it now.

Breathe.
